THE LATEST BATHROOM AND INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS TO LOOK OUT FOR

2022 is here, and with it, a whole host of exciting new trends along with some much-needed updates from 2021.

We’ve been scouring the internet and consulting our crystal ball to find out what’s coming up this year and beyond.

So, get your notebook ready and join us on a whistle-stop tour of bathroom interior design treasures – trust us, there’s something for everyone.

What’s hot in the interior design world in 2022?

Biophilia reigns supreme

Biophilic design has to do with the relationships between humans and the natural world.

There’s been a recent uptake for bringing the outside in and vice versa. In the bathroom, you can make a statement with a living wall, but the easiest way to embrace biophilia is simply adopting a few house plants.

The presence of flora can up your oxygen intake during the daytime and get you feeling productive. Houseplants can also help mask nasty odours and cleanse the air.

Some good choices for the bathroom are spider plants, peace lilies, aloe vera, ivy and bamboo.

We’re going greener

Plants are not enough to give us our fix of green, so we’re resorting to green paint and furniture to help us feel creative and inspired. The greens of choice are of a more natural hue, with sage making an elegant pairing with pink.

Other greens to look out for are Evergreen Fog by Sherwin Williams, a neutral that’s almost grey and October Mist by Benjamin Moore which is brighter but still works for a subdued backdrop.

If you’re interested in adding some colour patterns to your space to create a feature wall, leaf-inspired wallpaper designs are all the rage.

Sustainability is the name of the game

Boosting their eco-credentials, today’s discerning shopper is actively seeking interior design options that are organic and that will stand the test of time. This could mean natural materials that are biodegradable, devices that save water or furniture collections that don’t need to be replaced every year.

That’s where Ambiance Bain’s SMO™ comes into its own, now with a ten-year guarantee. It’s hard-wearing, resistant to harsh chemicals, easy to repair and with no grout lines to maintain, is super hygienic.

Marble’s back

Marble’s journey has been very up and down of late, with other materials such as quartz stealing the show. In 2022 it’s back for a reprise, offering a beautiful wall texture with stunning colourful veins that interrupt that stark and clinical all-white bathroom scheme.

Rewind the clock

Following the two most difficult years globally in recent history, we’ve been retreating into a phase of “cocooning” which has meant that our focus has been harking back to simpler times.

Softer interiors and homely objects are reminders of memories past, so it’s natural to see rich wooden features and vintage finds decorating our homes.

To make a bathroom feel more traditional, our Provence style cupboard doors and bath panels lend a French country feel to a space reminiscent of summer holidays spent with grandparents way back when. We may not have had this experience, but we can certainly picture it!

Comforting Browns

Whether you choose a traditional wooden panelling or you want a more organic, earthy vibe, browns help put us in touch with our roots. But this time, it’s not the earth tones that have inspired designers, but the browns we associate with comfort foods: chocolate, caramel, biscuits and even cognac. Of course, it’s healthier to look at these colours than to consume the actual items, so we’re all for it.

Safari is one of our most popular colour choices and looks like a beautiful frothy coffee. Nothing beats it when paired with a cream or white neutral worktop.

Curves are all-a-round

In line with our craving for organic forms and cocooning, curves have come into their own lately as a nod to the natural world. As well as luxurious bathtubs, curves can feature in your bathroom units and your worktop, as is the case with Joya, Delta, Solo and Aviso.

Textured surfaces

Just like straight lines, smooth surfaces rarely occur in nature, so stone textures are making an appearance in our homes. Our shower spaces can be kitted out with SMO™ wall panels with a high-quality stone finish, and if it’s a little sparkle you’re keen on, check out our Galaxy Gloss colour schemes.

Travel

After Brexit and Covid, travelling is not as carefree as it once was. Fear of Covid test results or the possibility of being locked down abroad has made us look for holiday destinations a little closer to home. But souvenirs have a purpose and can make a nice feature in your bathroom with a statement shelf. Or else you can pay homage to your favourite country by implementing some Provence style furniture. Then you need never go away again!

For bathrooms specifically

While the above trends can certainly be incorporated into your bathroom, some features are particularly pertinent to the bathroom space. Here are four we’ve picked out as being the most noteworthy for your designs:

Matt black fixtures

We love chrome here at Ambiance, and rose gold has certainly had something of a moment in recent years, but now that’s shifting to black accents. Taps, lighting and handles all stand out in black, which is a very simple yet sophisticated addition to the furnishings.

Spa feels

With long working days back in the office followed by excessive commutes, we need a place to relax at home. Cue the spa bathroom. This is a combination of lighting (natural or ambient), colours, essential oils and relaxing décor. Make it how you wish, but don’t forget a relaxing candle to calm away your daily worries.

Elegant storage

Bathroom items quickly build up – especially with all those Sanctuary Spa gift sets and perhaps a gadget or ten. You need somewhere to put them so you can get back to enjoying a spa day at home – and that means storage. Vanity, WC and tall units offer this in otherwise overlooked spaces so you can keep the clutter at bay.

Walk-in showers

Bathtubs are a luxury we can forego as we look to invest in our showers. Walk-in shower spaces are not only a practical solution as we get older, they raise the shower’s game as the major feature in a bathroom space. With Ambiance Bain you have a choice of adjustable or made to measure shower trays and two wall panel styles in SMO™ available in up to an array of beautiful colours and finishes to co-ordinate with your complete bathroom look.

If you’re feeling inspired for your 2022 bathroom, then why not peruse our collections or find your nearest showroom?
